In 2015, HakiElimu’s work continued to develop the education sector in Tanzania through advocating for transparency, good governance and effective allocation and management of resources to schools. We promoted quality teaching and learning environments, and facilitated active community engagement in school management through engaging citizens across the country. Two key campaigns were delivered through the media. Following “Boresha Elimu ya Awali” - Promoting numeracy and literacy in primary schools - Tanzania has been granted support from the
Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to implement the Literacy and Numeracy Education Support Programme (LANES). The second campaign, “Uhaba wa vyoo mashuleni” - Shortage of adequate toilets in schools - led to a number of pledges from government, corporations and other stakeholders to provide construction support in various locations.
