John Kalage

John Kalage

Board Member / Executive Director

John has more than 20 years of professional experience in increasingly senior management roles in International NGOs.  He has extensive experience in strategic management; financial and human resources management; designing and managing quality programmes and in securing and managing multimillion dollar grants. John has proven ability in advocacy and policy engagement as well as ability to build and develop organisational capacity including local NGOs/CBO, professional organisations and government agencies and institutions. Before joining HakiElimu in May 2015, he was working with Save the Children International as the Program Operations Director a role that he served for the previous six years.  John holds a Master of Education for Sustainability from London South Bank University and BA Economics from the University of Dar es salaam Tanzania.


Robert Mihayo

Quality Assurance Coordinator

Robert is currently the Quality Assurance Coordinator at HakiElimu, a position he has held since 2010. Prior to that Robert was the Manager, Information Access Unit at HakiElimu since 2006. Before moving to HakiElimu, Robert worked with Business Times as the Chief Editor. Prior to that, he worked with the University of Dar es Salaam. Robert has BA, PGD, MA and MSc degrees in Information Science, Public Admin, International relations and law, from local and foreign universities


Godfrey Boniventura

Godfrey Boniventura

Head of Programs

Godfrey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (2006) and a Master’s Degree in Economics (2008) from the University of Dar es salaam. He has several years of professional experience in education and development researches, policy and budget analysis. Godfrey is currently the Head of Programmes  at HakiElimu.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Charles works as a Monitoring and Evaluation specialist with experience in programme planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. Charles has extensive experience in preparation of performance monitoring plans; developing Monitoring and Evaluation training programmes; and Organisational and Institutional Capacity Assessment.

Emma Munslow

Resource Mobilization, Investments and Partnerships Advisor

Emma is a development fundraiser and partnership manager with 10 years’ experience working for NGO’s developing and delivering funding strategies and reaching and exceeding income targets across various income streams. She has worked with bilateral, multilateral and corporate donors as well as trusts an foundations and has an excellent record in building long lasting and rewarding relationships with donors and implementing partners.

 

Emma joined HakiElimu in August 2017 and brings vast experience in fundraising, relationship and grant management, as well as marketing & communications, specifically for national (UK) and International organisations including Restless Development and Malaria No More UK. Emma has experience securing funds from and working with donors including DFID, Sida, GAC, USAID, Pact, PSI, Hivos, Novo Foundation, Ford Foundation, UNICEF, Barclays

Robert Kindoli

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Manager

Robert is a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with 8 years of working experience with international NGOs. His experience includes designing and implementing M&E systems, designing surveys and special studies, data collection and management, analysis, visualization and sharing. Prior joining HakiElimu in November 2017, he worked as Monitoring and Evaluation Lead for PATH-BID Initiative, Zonal Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Pact-Pamoja Tuwalee Project, Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Africare-KAYA CCI Project and as Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for ADRA-ABY Project. Robert holds MSc. In Development Policy and Practice for Civil Society from Bradford University and BA in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Executive Directory Secretary

Lilyan is the Secretary to the Executive Director. Her main duties include assisting the Executive Director to undertake his official tasks effectively. Before joining HakiElimu in 2007, Lilyan worked with Tanzania Plantation Company (a sugar production and distribution company) in Moshi as a Management Secretary. Lilyan is a trained and experienced in administration and office management. She has a Diploma in Secretarial Services and Diploma in Human Resources Management from the Institute of Social Work, Dar es Salaam.

Rose Kalage

Program Officer

Rose works with HakiElimu as a Research and Policy Analysis Programme officer. Rose is responsible for conducting research on education; monitoring relevant policy developments on regular basis; and disseminating key information to stakeholders. Before joining HakiElimu, Rose worked with various research institutions. She is a social scientist with a Master’s Degree from the University of Nairobi.

Program Officer

Florige joined HakiElimu as a Programme Officer in the Research and Policy Analysis Unit in 2012. He has a B.A. Degree in Education and an M.A. Degree in Development Studies from the University of Dar es Salaam. Apart from teaching Florige has extensive experience in education policy, research and publication. Before joining HakiElimu, Florige worked with St. Joseph's Cathedral High School, Dar es Salaam as a teacher. 


Mwemezi Makumba

Mwemezi Makumba

Manager

Mwemezi was recently appointed as the Manager in the, Research and Policy Analysis Depart at HakiElimu . He joined  the organisation in 2012 as a Programme Manager in the same department. Before joining HakiElimu, Mwemezi worked with Business Times Limited as a Senior Business Journalist and Legal Officer for three years. Mwemezi holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from The Law School of Tanzania. He also has a Bachelor Degree of Laws (Hons) from Tumaini University, Dar es Salaam.

Judith Kapinga

Program Officer

Judith works in the department of Research, Innovation, Policy and Advocacy. Before joining HakiElimu she has worked in other institutions in areas of research, advocacy, visibility, publications and legal analysis. Further she has been practising as a tax expert by virtue of being an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania. She has acquired Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania and has Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Rosemary Mwenda

Rosemary Mwenda

Program Secretary

Rosemary Mwenda works at HakiElimu as the Librarian. Previously she worked as a Programme Assistant in the Media and Advocacy Department since 2007 where she was responsible for newspaper monitoring activities. Before joining HakiElimu, Rose was working with the Savings and Credit Cooperative Union League of Tanzania (SCCULT) in Dar es Salaam and Mbeya as a personal secretary. Rose holds a certificate of Full Secretarial Course.


Pius Makomelelo

Manager

Pius works with HakiElimu as a Manager, Community Engagement and Action Unit since 2004. The Unit is responsible for coordinating the Friends of Education Movement which currently comprises over 40,000 members across the country. Before joining HakiElimu, Pius worked with Aide et Action as a Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. Prior to that, Pius worked as a secondary school teacher at Bulima and Tagwa secondary schools in Mwanza region for three years. Pius holds a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Poverty Reduction and Development Management from the University of Birmingham (UK), and B.A. Degree in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Program Officer

Naomi joined HakiElimu in 2009 as a Programme Officer, Community Engagement and Action Unit. Naomi is responsible for enhancing the capacity of Friends of Education and concerned citizens, in monitoring and accountability in education programmes. She also coordinates HakiElimu’s work in four primary and four secondary schools in Arusha Rural District. Naomi holds Master’s Degree in Science in Development Policy from Mzumbe University, Morogoro, Tanzania. Before joining HakiElimu, she worked with the Local Government Authority as a Planning Officer.


Honoratus Swai

Program Officer

Honoratus holds a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religious studies. He joined HakiElimu in 2008 having previously worked in Tanzania's refugee camps under the Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS). Honoratus’ key achievements at HakiElimu include clarifying the concept of Friends of Education to stakeholders through various means including road show campaigns. He is also involved in the strengthening capacities of school committees through training and publications.


Joyce Mkina

Program Officer

Joyce joined HakiElimu in 2009 as a Programme Officer in the, Community Engagement and Action DEpqartment. She is responsible for mobilising, facilitating and supporting communities to transform and make change in education and democracy. Joyce also works as Community Engagement Coordinator in Kilwa district. She has several years of experience working with local communities having previously worked with communities in a water and sanitation programme at World Vision Tanzania. Joyce received her advanced Diploma in Environmental Planning at the Institute of Rural Development Planning in Dodoma and a Master’s Degree in Science in Development Planning at Mzumbe University in Morogoro. Joyce has attended various training programmes at Arusha, Kigali and Kampala on local democracy, human rights and critical writing skills for change

Elisante Kitulo

Elisante Kitulo

Manager

Elisante joined HakiElimu in 2011. His key duties include facilitating and providing support to HakiElimu’s media work and cultivating functional relationship with key media outlets. He also worked as a district coordinator of HakiElimu’s model schools programme in Ukerewe. Before joining HakiElimu, Elisante worked as a journalist with Majira Newspaper. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from Tumaini University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania. Elisante is admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania

Program officer

Abraham Lazaro is a Programme Officer in the Media Engagement and Advocacy department responsible for managing online and digital media. He has Master’s degree in Mass Communication from  the University of Dar Es Salaam. Abraham also holds certificates in Policy Analysis and Advocacy, Project Planning and Management; Power and Voice courses offered by MS – Training Centre for Development Corporation.

Program Officer

Benedicta holds a B.A Degree in Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Dar es Salaam. She has several years of working experience in the field of Communication and Media. She is currently working as a Programme Officer- Media Engagement and Advocacy Department. Benedicta is responsible for producing, hosting and presenting HakiElimu’s creative TV and radio programmes and documentaries. Apart from her degree, Benedicta holds certificates in Critical Writing for Change, Budget and Accountability; and Monitoring and Evaluation from MS –TCDC, Arusha.

Program Officer

Dennis is a dedicated Tanzanian professional Mass Communicator, currently working as a Programme Officer in the Media Engagement and Advocacy Department at HakiElimu. Dennis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Tumaini University. Prior to joining HakiElimu, Dennis worked with SAHARA Media as news/programmes producer and presenter for Radio Free Africa and Star TV.

Program Officer

Alinanuswe joined HakiElimu in Jan 2014, as Programme Officer, Production of Media and advocacy programmes in the Media Engagement and Advocacy Department. Alinanuswe has more than five years of experience in creating and producing documentaries, TV programmes, TV commercials and short films in several countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. Prior to joining HakiElimu, he worked with International media channels, namely, BBC & DW.  Alinanuswe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine and Performing Arts (specializing in Film and Theatre Arts) from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Presscodd works as a Programme Officer in the Media Engagement and Advocacy Department. He is responsible for facilitating the printing of all Print media and advocacy materials. Prior to joining HakiElimu, Presscodd worked with International Training & Education Centre for Health (I-TECH) and then with Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). Presscodd holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Application from India.

Administrative Officer, Office Repair and Maintenance

Peter works at HakiElimu as an Administrative Officer responsible for office repairs and maintenance. Before joining HakiElimu, Peter worked with Hifab International and later on with Afriscan International for eight years as Maintenance Coordinator. Peter Tupa holds a B.A. Degree in Political Science and Economics from India.

Raphael’s current position at HakiElimu is Administrative Assistant, a position he has held since 2010. Prior to that, Raphael worked as a Security Guard at HakiElimu since 2003. Raphael holds a driving license and a certificate in mechanics.

Since 2004 Regina has worked at HakiElimu as Administrative Assistant responsible for office cleanliness. Prior to that, Regina was working as a Cleaner at LandCare Co.

Sylvand joined HakiElimu in 2002 from Danish Association for International Cooperation where he was working as a Driver.   At HakiElimu Sylvand works as a Driver. He holds a certificate in driving from the National Institute of Transport (NIT)

Yona joined HakiElimu in 2005 as a temporary Security Guard. In 2010 he was employed as Adminstrative Assistant responsible for office cleaness, the position which he still serves.

Daniel joined HakiElimu in 2002. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy. His work experience in the Non-Governmental Organisation sector began in 1995 when he joined Aide et Action, a French International NGO, as an accountant.

Esther holds an Advanced Diploma in Accountancy from the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy. Prior to joining HakiElimu, she worked with Tanzania Tea Blenders as an intern for three months. Esther’s main responsibilities at HakiElimu include upholding all the finance Department’s  tasks in accordance with organisational administration policies and international accounting standards.

Peter works at HakiElimu as an Accountant. Before joining HakiElimu in 2011, he worked with NSSF as an Intern Accountant. Prior to that, he worked as Production statistician at Williamson Diamond mining company at Mwadui, Shinyanga. Peter graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS) with a B.Com, Finance (Hons) in 2010 and is currently set to graduate with a CPA from the Tanzania National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA).

Stephen joined HakiElimu in 2006. He supports the internal and external network infrastructure, the IT project management and server administration, and provides technical support to staff. His previous positions include Network and System Administrator at Mwananchi Communications Limited, and Helpdesk and Network Assistant Administrator at Soft-Tech Consulting Company. Stephen holds a BSc. Degree in Electronics and Communications from the University of Dar es Salaam, and an MBA Degree from the University of Maryland, USA. Stephen is a Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Solution Associate and Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist.

Fredrick is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and  Masters of Science degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at Mzumbe Business School. Before joining HakiElimu, Freddy worked with various organisations in various disciplines including management, marketing and administration. As an Administrative Officer, Freddy’s work focuses primarily on ensuring efficient procurement and proper management of assets at HakiElimu in compliance with the organisation’s Procurement and Asset Management Policy.

Human Resource Coordinator

Ms.Irene Laban Mkinga joined HakiElimu in June 2013.She graduated from the Institute of Social Work in 2010 with a degree in Human Resources Management and is also a graduate from the Frederick-Ebert Stiftung Institute on Young Leaders training program.

With more than four years experience in human resources and organisational development experience, her  expertise includes talent management, employees’ relations, organisational development, training and development, leadership and management coaching.to ensure that they align with HakiElimu’s Vision and Mission. Her Career started at an American-based Coffee company (Mawenzi Coffee exporters) as a Human Resources Assistant before joining HakiElimu as Human Resources and Admininstration Coordinator, a position she is currently serving. Irene has attended several trainings on the Human Resource field from the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE), Occupation Health and Safety (OSHA), Human Resource Society of Tanzania (HRSTA) and others.

Joel joined HakiElimu in 2009 from AMEET Transport where he worked as a driver. Joel is now responsible for the security of HakiElimu premises.

Mariam works as an Office Secretary at HakiElimu. She has extensive experience in office management, communication and public relations. Mariam is also the focal person for HIV/AIDS workplace intervention at HakiElimu.


David Kagondi

Administrative Assistant, Store Keeper

After completing his secondary school education, David Kagondi joined a vocational training centre in Mwanza and successfully obtained a Fitter Mechanic Grade III certificate. He joined HakiElimu in April 2004 as an Administrative Assistant in charge of stores. Prior to joining HakiElimu, David worked with Kuleana Centre for children's rights in Mwanza as an Administrative Assistant.
